Technical
Southern Counties Shooting School was the venue for the first GB Team FITASC Sporting selection 2009,132 competitors took part there was 1 'no show'.
The shoot manager and course designer was Mr Kevin Newton assisted by Mrs Anthea Hillyer.
The competition ran over layouts named Skeet, High Tower and Ponds with the Skeet layout proving to be the most demanding course on the first day and all three courses evenly balanced on the second day with High Tower being replaced with Brick Tower.
Day one was marred by high gusting winds that made it at times a lottery for the competitors with the Skeet layout being the worse affected; this is clearly reflected in the scores for the majority of competitors on day one.
Worthy of note was the effort put in by the grounds staff in preparation of the shooting arenas for this event with new positions prepared for day two including a completely new layout 'Brick Tower.
There were no other competitions run at the Southern Counties during this event ensuring maximum ground usage for the selection shoot.
Hugh Smith assessed the targets on Friday the 24, all targets where of a high standard, visible with varying speeds, distance, colours and angles, it was only necessary to make changes for the predicted weather with additional changes made on Saturday before first shots.
The facilities at Southern Counties are conducive with a Premier Plus ground and the staff service was excellent.
The scores were computed and maintained in a timely manner by Anthea there was little or no delay in displaying the results, at the end of the event the shoot offs were completed within 45 minutes and the presentations completed within 45 minutes of the last shot.

The 131 score of the event winner was extremely good given the poor weather conditions on day one; the competition ran with no delays completing day one on time and 15 minutes early on the Sunday.
The atmosphere on Saturday was depressed as competitors posted disappointing personal scores due to the poor weather however, as conditions improved during day two so did the atmosphere with many competitors commenting on how good the targets had been and apart from day one they thoroughly enjoyed the event and challenge.
