Podimore Shooting Ground was the venue for the 3rd GB FITASC Sporting Selection Shoot 2010 it was also the cut off for the 2010 World FITASC Sporting GB Team selection 106 competitors took part.
The ground owner and course designer was Mr Paul Bennett with administration provided by Alison Meek.
The competition ran over 3 layouts new system, Q-Line 1& 2, Promatic 1 & 2 and Demolition 1 & 2; new shooting positions and layouts provided for the second day's competition; effectively there were 6 layouts.
The ground and shooting areas were well prepared for the event; it was clear that a tremendous amount of effort had been used to accommodate the FITASC competitors needs.
Target presentation was exceptionally good. However, on day two, late on in the afternoon, there was some impact on Blaze targets on the Promatic position one due to high light intensity. The weather conditions were as near perfect as you could get.
There was only one major failure, this occurred on the Promatic layout day one requiring a trap replacement, it was dealt with quickly. Day one finished on time, day two completed a fifteen minutes early.
Hugh Smith assessed the targets on Thursday the 17 June and Friday 18 June, all targets where of a high standard, they were visible with varying speeds, distance, heights, and angles, minor changes were made during the inspection. All layouts were a credit to the course designer Paul Bennett.
The facilities at Podimore SG are more than adequate for an event such as this.
The scores were computed and maintained by Alison Meek, who also maintained a large results board that became the focus of attention as the competition developed; something that is often omitted at premier grounds but provides value to the event.
On completion of the event Hugh Smith and Nick Woodward identified from the current Rankings the names of those selected to represent GB at the World Championships in Italy July 2010. It should be noted that Paddy Howe S/Vet declined his position also Stuart Rudling Seniors; the positions in these two categories were adjusted accordingly.
Competition
The first day's results returned high scores with 12 x 25 ex 25. One 25 straight stood out above the rest, posted by Steve Brightwell on the Promatic layout. Steve posted 74 ex 75 on the first day, an outstanding achievement perhaps suggesting that day one was a little on the soft side, it wasn't.
Seniors leading scores all tied on 71, Chris Broomfield, Stuart Rudling and Andrew White.
The lead Lady was Janine Preece on 63 with Ruth Naunton 61 and Carol Sawkins 59.
Juniors lead was Phil Gray 69 with Jack Lovick also 69 and Nathan Bachelor 62.
Veterans lead Steve Brightwell 74 John Dyson 70 and Graham Stirzaker 69.
S/Vets lead Alan Coy 66 Roger Ward 65 and Jerry Bland 63.
Day two started with ideal warm and dry good weather conditions. However the wind started to affect the course thankfully not too dramatically.
The change of targets and positions now reflected a step change to day ones targets, new perspectives added to the test of competitor's skills. Targets were well presented also there were many variations with the doubles leading to a decrease in returned scores in comparison to day one. There were no 25 scores on day two with the average high scores of 21/22 there were however scores of 23 and 24 returned on all layouts.
The 139 was the winning score posted by Andrew White (Wales) one target clear of Paul Bachelor and Martyn Myers (Wales) on 138.
Final placings were:
Seniors: A White 139, P Bachelor 138, and Martyn Myers 138.
Ladies: JM Preece 115, R Naunton 112, and P Easton 111.

Conclusion:
A very good championship event and team selection shoot. Many good comments were passed from all levels of competitors. A high standard was achieved by Podimore for this first attempt at this level and I whole heartedly agree.
Nick Woodward ran yet again another successful raffle thanks for your efforts Nick.
